Dear _______,
For the average American family, pets —especially dogs and cats —are considered family members. It’s typical to see families playing with their dogs in a park or cats lounging by a window. Meanwhile, countless animals roam the streets or sit in shelters, waiting to be adopted. As a nonprofit organization, PAWS works to help all homeless animals and relies on the support of donors and volunteers.
PAWS began with our founders, Paula and Alexis Fasseas, rescuing a stray named Pippen from the Greek island of Crete in June 1996. They learned that he would’ve been poisoned once tourist season ended. Their experience led them to a world of saving homeless animals. They established our No Kill Mission of saving animals from homelessness and euthanasia.
Since 1997, over 42,000 pets were euthanized in Chicago. However, PAWS Chicago has successfully reduced homeless pet euthanasia in the city by 88.92 percent. In 2024, PAWS Chicago found homes for 4,382 dogs and cats, placed 2,254 animals in foster care, and achieved a save rate of 97.93 percent for animals in its program. We are a leading nonprofit in Chicago, with a focus not only on homeless pets but also on current pet owners. We offer free and low-cost vaccinations, as well as spay and neuter surgeries. We performed 17,168 spay and neuter surgeries through our Lurie Clinic in 2024, reaching underserved families and neighborhoods that needed the most help in controlling their pet populations.
PAWS is the organization people turn to for pet health and to help prevent the euthanasia of homeless animals in the city. Our amazing volunteers help run our training center, medical clinic, and adoption center. Our No Kill Mission is the foundation of our work, but we are driven by the passion of helping animals citywide. However, our collaboration with Chicago Animal Care and Control, as well as our fundraising events like the Fur Ball, wouldn’t be possible without donations.
Whether you are just learning about PAWS Chicago or have been a volunteer yourself, we hope you’ll consider donating to help our cause grow even further. This donation can be made directly through our website as a one-time or recurring monthly donation at any price. It can also be given as a tribute or memorial donation in honor of a special person or pet. You can also look at our social media and website for updates on our upcoming fundraising events. Your donation can help save a family’s pet or find a loving home for an animal.
With gratitude,
